Idemili in Anambra State - All You Need to Know About greater Idemili

Idemili is an ancient clan or tribe in Igbo land made up of people closely related in their way of life, culture, dialect, religion etc. The early Idemili people (pre-colonial era) are closely related by blood and practiced a common traditional religion by the worship of the Idemili deity. The coming of the colonial masters changed a lot of things, bringing divisions and many religions. But the great people of Idemili in present day Anambra State, to a large extent, still recognize themselves as one.
The people of Idemili are traditionally known for their reverence for Eke Idemili (Python), Idemili rivers among other things to be discoursed in future posts. Idemili people are also known for their economic process and success in almost every field of life.

17 towns make up the present day Idemili. These towns are further classified under the present Idemili North and Idemili South Local Government Areas of Anambra State, Nigeria.

Towns in Idemili North Local Government Area are Abacha, Abatete, Eziowelle, Ideani, Nkpor, Obosi, Ogidi, Oraukwu, Uke, Umuoji.

While, Towns in Idemili South Local Government Area are Akwa-ukwu, Alor, Awka-Etiti, Nnobi, Nnokwa, Oba, and Ojoto.

The present representative of Idemili North and Idemili South Federal Constituency at the Nigeria's
House of Representatives (8th Nigerian National Assembly) is Hon. Obinna Chidoka who is an indigene of Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.


Idemili North and South along with Awka North and South, Anaocha, Dunukofia and Njikoka local overnment Areas make up the Anambra Central Nigeria Senatorial district of Anambra State Nigeria.
